Baltic amber or succinite is a natural organic fossil gemstone formed out of pine trees (now extinct conifer) resin 45-54 million years ago. The hardening process of amber is known as polymerization, which fossilizes the resin over many centuries and makes it hard and sturdy. It was carried to the Baltic Sea region due to the geographic factors of the tectonic plates. Now it spreads mainly in the regions of Kaliningrad and Lithuania where it is extracted through mining and fishing, respectively. Wearing Baltic amber close to the skin is a traditional European remedy for baby teething. A natural analgesic, amber will help a baby without resorting to drugs. Used for centuries in Europe, amber's natural anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties are perfect to soothe teething babies. Amber is a fossilized resin, which warms against the skin, releasing its therapeutic properties safely and naturally.

Amber contains a property called succinic acid or amber acid - a natural analgesic and healing agent. Baltic amber is the only type of amber that has a rich concentration of this acid, i. e. 3-8 %. In the United States, it usual to think of the use of amber as alternative treatment, but it is used in normal medical practices in many parts of the world still today. Amber has stood the test of time and is noted in countless historical documents as a natural healer. The father of medicine himself, Hippocrates (460-377 BC) wrote a lot about the different medical uses for amber. These applications have been passed across civilizations and down through generations.

Baltic amber contains small, yet effective amount of the active ingredient called succinic acid. When babies wear the necklace, their body heat warms up the amber beads causing the release of the acid. This amber acid is then absorbed into their skin and the blood stream, allowing them to reap the benefits of the succinic acid’s anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties.
